Department ∅ · Index of Holdings · Public access Revision 47 · Catalogued to date

An index of thresholds,
interruptions, and other
unresolved passages.

The Liminal Bureau maintains records of that which has not, in the ordinary sense, occurred — the interval between a departure and its arrival, the room one is nominally in but cannot name, the self in abeyance. Holdings are open to the public, in so far as the public has a use for them.

§ II · Reading Room Three advisements for the visitor

The Bureau does not answer enquiries,
in the conventional sense.

I.
On the hours of the archive
The Bureau is open during the interval between a question and its answer. It is also, and separately, open during the pause between a telephone's last ring and the moment one realises it has stopped. Closed on certainties.
II.
On the absence of the archivist
The archivist is not on leave. The archivist is between cases. Visitors may file requests in writing; the requests will be received, stamped, and — as a matter of policy — not read.
III.
On leaving
The door is where you left it. Whether it remains the same door is a question the Bureau does not, in good conscience, answer. Safe passage.
